Our History...

The Information Collaborative, a coalition of individuals and representatives of non-profit medical, educational and social service organizations, published The Family Resource Guide (393 pages) in 1999.

The primary sponsor of The Family Resource Guide was UPMC Health System. Other sponsors were Alcoa, Allegheny County Health Dept., Ronald McDonald House Charities, March of Dimes, Birth Defect Foundation, The Jewish Healthcare Foundation, Mercy Hospital of Pittsburgh, The Grable Foundation, The Federation of Independent School Alumnae (FISA), Gateway Health Plan, Best Health Care, Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh, The Make-A Wish Foundation of Western PA, United Way HelpLine, and Allegheny County Dept. of Human Services

Fifteen thousand copies were distributed free of charge through Children's Hospital, Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh, Alliance for Infants and Toddlers, and other agencies.

In addition to the print version of the guide, the "yellow pages" of the guide (alphabetical listing of service providers) is posted and updated on the United Way Pittsburgh web site(www.unitedwaypittsburgh.org), under the
keyword "The Family Resource Guide."

In 2006, several members of the Information Collaborative began meeting to discuss updating the guide and to invite new members to join the project. The Family Resource Guide Committee is the working title of the group.
